Kinesics is the study of human body movement, including facial expressions. The face is the primary communicator of emotion, and usually women display more facial expressions- thus more emotion- than men (Gamble, p.96). The fact that women make more facial expressions than men can be clearly seen in reactions to winning awards. Over the years, I’ve noticed that women who win Oscars are much more emotional and make way more facial expressions than men who win. Men seem to be much more composed and don’t show their excitement as much on their face. Comparing Jamie Foxx’s Oscar win for best actor with Halle Berry’s Oscar win for best actress illustrates this commonality.
